Nike Dunk Low Veneer Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Dunk Low Veneer are a part of the Ugly Duckling pack. The original pack was a co.Jp exclusive and contained 3 colorways. All of them saw a retro in 2020. I had the OG version but sold it, and have been looking for a pair to complete the set again ever since. I lucked out on a SNKRS restock and managed to grab a pair of the newer version.

These get their nickname from the colorway like the rest of the Ugly Duckling pack. The green, purple and brown colorway definitely gives me Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle vibes.

I now have all the different Ugly Duckling releases in some form, with OG Plums, the newer version of the Ceramics and the latest addition, the Dusty Olive colorway.

These come in the regular Nike Sportswear box laced up in with the purple laces. Otherwise, no extras here.

The shoes come in at $115, same price as many of the regular GR Dunks that release these days. However, the $115 is the carryover price from back when regular GRs were closer to $100 in 2020, which means these actually get the premium treatment.

Materials

The Ugly Duckling pack was and is known for it’s extra soft suede. The materials here do not disappoint and have plenty of softness like their peers in the pack. An entirely suede upper guarantees I’ll be trying my hardest not to get these dirty or scuffed when wearing them. Rock with pride, but handle with care.

Fit & Comfort

These sneakers boast a spacious fit, and the supple suede uppers require minimal break-in time. I believe the softer uppers contribute to enhanced step-in comfort.

I typically stick with my true size for Dunk releases such as these. Given the absence of advanced technology or cushioning systems, expect a somewhat rigid feel underfoot. Nevertheless, I don’t experience discomfort with these. While retro models like this don’t aim for comfort in like Boost or React, they remain good enough for casual wear.

If these are sold out in stores, you can try looking for them on eBay.
